3 interesting facts not only about container packing and transport of steel structures (worldwide)

It’s easy to say “send a package”… But what if there are dozens,

or even hundreds of tons, and it must reach the other side of the world, for example
Australia? You may be surprised by everything we have to consider when packing and transporting
steel structures.

1) Efficient use of space and convenience for the client

When packing into a shipping container you play “Tetris” to make effective use of
every centimeter of space. In our case we also load everything in reverse order. Items
the client needs at the start of installation are placed in the container last. That way
you only need to open the doors and start working.

2) Beware of improper packaging that will degrade materials

When preparing an order for container transport, you must not use conventional
stretch film for such a long journey. That would trap condensation on the steel
structure and it would begin to corrode immediately. We rely on a
special film with high UV stability and a sufficient amount of volatile corrosion inhibitors
(VCI). This ensures our products always arrive at their destination in
perfect condition.

3) Insects and pests can cost you millions!

Now pay attention to a critical but often underestimated issue. All timber must be
heat treated. The reason is simple: it eliminates (eggs of) insects and other
pests. If a shipment arrives in Australia it undergoes detailed inspection.
If inspectors find pests, your shipment will literally be held up. In the best case
you will face hefty additional charges for professional decontamination and the client
will receive the shipment with a significant delay. A worse outcome is that the entire cargo
is sent back to you.
