TMETAL supplies steel structures for bridges, rotating towers and technological platforms intended for the transport of excavated material during the excavation of a new railway tunnel under the Brenner Pass.
The Brenner Foothill Tunnel, connecting Innsbruck, Austria, and Fortezza, Italy, will replace the existing inadequate rail connection when completed in 2026. The tunnel will be 55 km long and, together with the existing underground Innsbruck bypass, will reach a total length of 64 km, making it the longest tunnel in the world. It will overtake the Gotthard Tunnel, which has held the lead since 2016 with its 57 km. The new connection should significantly speed up and make rail transport to the south more efficient, and at the same time relieve motorway traffic between central and southern Europe.
